National Shea Month!
The GSA (Global Shea Alliance) has officially declared July as “Shea Month’ and we are so excited to honour the golden ingredient we love so much!
If you are new to using Shea, let us take you on a journey of how it came about. Have you ever wondered where Shea originated? Shea is a nut from the shea/karité trees that grow in the Sahel region extending from West to East Africa.

Benefits

Shea has fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals needed to keep your skin healthy and glowing. Our skin is one of our body’s largest organs, and just like your inner organs, it needs to be equally nourished, if not more. So not only does it moisturise your skin, Shea has several other benefits.
  • Packed with antioxidant which protects the skin from free radicals and UV rays.
  • Prevents itchy and dry skin.
  • Absorbs into the skin quickly, leaving no residue.
  • Great for conditioning the skin.
  • Prevents and soothes inflammation.
  • Awesome makeup remover.
  • Ran out of lip balm? No worries! Shea can aid in chapped lips.
  •  Aids in treating burns.
  • Eliminates wrinkles.
  • Helps acnes.

Sustainability

Shea is one of the world’s most sustainable resources! How can that be possible, you ask? Well, Shea is hand-harvested and hand-produced by the people of Africa, where they are in control of their resources. The trees they derive from can produce numerous nuts within two years and grow naturally with no need for chemicals for irrigation.

Women of the Savannah Development Project

Many of you have followed the R&R Luxury’s journey but are you aware of who gathers our shea nuts for distribution? Our founder, Valerie Obaze, created the Women of the Savannah Development Project (WSDP) to improve the Savannah communities that supply shea nuts to skincare brands like R&R.

With the aid of WSDP, women in the poverty cycle now have the training, safety equipment, warehouses to store their nuts, and a center to process the butter. We are proud to say that R&R Luxury is locally sourced in Ghana and created with natural ingredients. Furthermore, we take pride in the steps that we are taking in continuing to preserve the environment.
Shea is one of the most beautiful and diverse ingredients on this planet. Share with us how you use Shea and the changes it has made for you.
