Dandruff is probably one of the most annoying scalp conditions ever. It is highly noticeable if your hair is darker or wearing dark colours as it falls onto your clothes. Despite what others may say or think, dandruff has absolutely nothing to do with poor hygiene. If you suffer from a severe dry scalp, chances are dandruff has made an unwanted presence in your life. Here are some remedies to naturally get rid of dandruff.

Coconut Oil 🥥

You may have seen us sing the praises of Coconut Oil in previous blog posts, and it’s within reason. Coconut Oil is used for several homes and health treatments. So why not use it to treat your dandruff. Coconut oil improves skin hydration and prevents dryness (dryness can worsen dandruff). In addition, coconut oil and its compounds are antifungal, which helps fight fungal infections and bacteria, and are high in vitamin F, which allows skin and hair to retain moisture. Check out R&R Luxury’s cold-pressed and unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil. It is sourced directly from Ghana and will naturally rid your scalp of dandruff.

Aloe Vera

Next time you’re in your local grocery store, make sure you pick up an Aloe vera leaf (or if you’re based in the motherland like us, you may be able to pick some from your garden). Why? Because its antibacterial and antifungal properties protect against dandruff. Aloe vera and its unique properties have enzymes that help reduce inflammation when applied to the scalp. To use, cut a small piece from the leaf, split it in half, scope the gel from the leaf, and gently apply the gel to your head, allowing it to sit for up to an hour.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Though it has a very potent smell, Apple cider vinegar can kill the fungus that causes dandruff and relieves itching. To apply, dilute with water in a spray bottle, section hair, and spray mix into the scalp. You’ll be sure to see the difference once used frequently.

Scalp Exfoliation

The same exfoliation routine you have for your skin should be the same for your scalp. Scalp exfoliation gently lifts and removes dead skin from the scalp lessening and getting rid of dandruff over time.

Trying these steps won’t be an overnight success; however, the process will get you back into your favourite little black dress. 😉
